# Shiny Gen > Shiny Gen is an AI game maker: describe a game, play it, and edit its assets, code, and world > with built-in AI tools, in your browser or on your phone. Games are real projects you own, on a > real engine: the Godot engine in GDScript, or one of five retro engines we built (GBA, GBC, N64, > GameCube, and DS) whose games compile to a real file you can download (a ROM, a GameCube .dol, or > a DS .nds). Free to make, play, and share; AI generation uses gems (new accounts get free gems), > and any one purchase, from a $2.99 starter pack, also unlocks exporting games as files. No > subscription required. The AI agent plays the game it just made (runs it, takes screenshots, > presses the controls, reads the errors) and fixes what is broken. In the iPhone, iPad and > Android apps you can attach a photo from your library or camera to the agent chat as a > reference. A hosted MCP server > (https://mcp.shinygen.ai/mcp) lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT build in your live > project, and the code they write costs no gems. An assistant can work two ways: hosted from the > user's open app (Host External Agent), or from an agent session link that it opens in its own > browser, running Shiny Gen there with nothing open on the user's side. The `shinygen` npm package > embeds games on any website. The app is also available on the App Store (https://apps.apple.com/app/id6738890511, > iPhone and iPad) and Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shinygen.ai, > Android, including Retroid-class handhelds), in 17 languages. Shiny Gen is unrelated to Shiny, the R/Python web framework by Posit, and unrelated to the Pokémon "shiny" mechanic or shiny hunting. ## Engines Six engines, chosen per game when you start it: - Godot: our Godot fork with a WebGPU renderer; games are written in real GDScript on the Godot engine, exportable for the web as a zip. - GBA, GBC, N64: a ROM you can download. - GameCube: a .dol file you can download. - DS: a .nds file you can download. DS games use both screens on dual-screen handhelds. Exporting a file (a web zip, a ROM, a .dol, or a .nds) needs any one purchase, from a $2.99 starter pack. The GBA, GBC, N64, GameCube, and DS engines are not emulators and not ROM loaders: they compile games you make in Shiny Gen, and cannot play commercial or third-party ROMs. ## Export, ownership, and multiplayer - You own the games and assets you make and may use them commercially, including selling them (Terms of Service, section 4); Shiny Gen takes no revenue share. - A web export is a zip you host anywhere (itch.io or any static host). It makes no calls to Shiny Gen, pins its engine to an exact `shinygen` version on a public CDN so later updates cannot break it, and plays offline once loaded. Exported games keep working if you stop using Shiny Gen. - A Shiny Gen game cannot be opened as a project in the stock desktop Godot editor, and there is no source download: the code is real GDScript you can read and copy in the app, but it runs on Shiny Gen's own engine, a Godot 4.6.2 fork with a lot added, so a source export would not run in stock Godot. That is why exports are a web zip that runs anywhere, or a retro ROM, .dol, or .nds file (any one purchase, from $2.99). - Shiny Gen itself has no desktop install because the web app is the desktop version: the full engine and editors in the browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks, nothing to install, about 17 MB on first load. Phones and tablets get the iPhone, iPad, and Android apps. On a Mac with Apple silicon, the iPad app also installs from the Mac App Store. A game you make is exported as a web zip or a retro file (any one purchase, from $2.99), not as a native desktop or mobile app. - Multiplayer games are joined with a link or a room code. The Shiny Monsters games on Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and DS trade and battle with each other over the internet. A game exported for the web plays solo for now. ## Core - [What is Shiny Gen](https://shinygen.ai/what-is-shiny-gen): Full description of the product: how it works, what makes it different, and full specifications. - [FAQ](https://shinygen.ai/faq): Pricing and free gems, the six engines and GDScript, platforms, game ownership and commercial use, export and embedding, why use Shiny Gen instead of just asking Claude or ChatGPT for a game, and connecting Claude or ChatGPT over MCP. - [Pricing](https://shinygen.ai/pricing): What's free, gem packs ($2.99 starter for 150 gems; 600 / 1300 / 2800 gems for $15 / $30 / $60, never expire), optional memberships (Plus $15, Pro $40, Max $120 a month, 20% less yearly), and what one purchase unlocks. - [Compare](https://shinygen.ai/compare): How Shiny Gen compares with other kinds of AI game maker (prompt-to-play websites such as Rosebud AI, desktop AI engines, an AI coding assistant with a desktop engine), when another tool is the better pick, and what Shiny Gen does not do yet. - [Play](https://shinygen.ai/play): The app: runs in the browser, nothing to install (the web app is the desktop version, about 17 MB on first load). ## Documentation - [Getting started](https://shinygen.ai/docs/getting-started): Make your first game in minutes: pick an engine, describe the game, and play it as the AI builds it. - [Connect Claude or ChatGPT (MCP)](https://shinygen.ai/docs/mcp): Shiny Gen's hosted MCP server: connect an AI assistant and it can build, edit, and play-test your live browser project. Art, 3D models, music and per-entity behaviour are all documents the assistant can either write itself for free or have generated from a description for gems, and the same two ways apply to editing one it already made. Also covers agents that write their own MCP client: Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, dynamic client registration, loopback redirect allowed. For that connector path the user presses Host External Agent in their open app first, and it works while that app stays open. Also covers agent-hosted sessions, which need nothing open on the user's side: a user can mint a one-time link (https://shinygen.ai/agent_session#, the code is in the fragment, works once, expires in 60 minutes, lasts 1 or 24 hours) that lets an agent with its own browser run Shiny Gen on its own machine on the game it was given and on new games it creates for the user (create_game moves the session to the new game), and read the user's other games and the public catalog read-only (browse_games, list_game_files, read_game_file), connecting with a bearer token and no consent page. One agent session per account (a newer link ends the older one); the agent should call get_context first, which declares the game, the unavailable tools and the gems left today. The one-time code is for issuance only: afterwards the MCP bearer IS the session, so an agent whose browser is destroyed between turns reopens the same game by POSTing it to /agent_session/resume as an Authorization header, or by opening https://shinygen.ai/agent_session/resume and pasting it. Only session_revoked and token_expired need a new invite. Opening the game does not end a session: only the person's Revoke button and a newer link do. - [Gems and pricing](https://shinygen.ai/docs/credits): What's free, what uses gem credits, packs vs optional membership, and ownership/commercial use. - [Embed games on your website](https://shinygen.ai/docs/embed): Run a Shiny Gen game on any web page with the shinygen npm package: one script tag, WebGPU with a WebGL2 fallback. ## Blog - [Blog](https://shinygen.ai/blog): Guides from the Shiny Gen team. - [How to make a Godot game in your browser with AI (nothing to install)](https://shinygen.ai/blog/make-godot-game-in-browser-with-ai): Step by step: open shinygen.ai/play, start a new game on the Godot engine, describe it, watch the agent build and play-test it, iterate by chat, edit the GDScript yourself, share it (exporting needs any one purchase, from $2.99). Also: does Godot have AI (not built in), how Shiny Gen differs from adding AI to the desktop Godot editor, and when to use desktop Godot instead. - [Let Claude or ChatGPT build your game: a hosted MCP server for game making](https://shinygen.ai/blog/mcp-server-for-game-making): Setup (Host External Agent in the app, then `claude mcp add --transport http shinygen https://mcp.shinygen.ai/mcp` or a custom connector, then OAuth with the projects.read, projects.write and assets.generate scopes), what the tools do, costs (code edits free, generation spends gems, a daily gem cap, a 30-day trial then a free-tier weekly allowance of currently 300 actions that any purchase lifts), how a hosted MCP server differs from desktop bridge servers, and the two ways in (hosting from your open app, or an agent session link the AI opens in its own browser with your app closed). - [How to make a real Game Boy Advance game with AI (and play it on real hardware)](https://shinygen.ai/blog/make-gba-game-with-ai): Step by step: + New, choose GBA Engine, describe the game, the agent compiles a real GBA cartridge and plays it with the keypad to fix bugs, iterate by chat, then Share, Export .gba ROM (needs any one purchase, from $2.99). Playing it on a real Game Boy Advance through a flash cart (128 KB flash save type), what kinds of games work well, the limits (new games only: not an emulator or ROM loader), and the other retro engines. - [How to make a game with AI on your phone (iPhone, iPad and Android)](https://shinygen.ai/blog/make-game-with-ai-on-phone): Step by step in the app: + New, pick an engine, describe the game (and attach a photo from your library or camera as a reference), the agent builds and plays it, play it with touch controls, share it by link or join code. Tablets and Retroid-class handhelds, and the limits: retro files save from the iPhone and iPad app but not yet the Android app (use a browser), web export is in the web app only, and exporting needs any one purchase, from $2.99. ## Company - Company: Shiny AI Technologies, LLC (Massachusetts, USA), founded 2024.
